After too much delay (sorry) the new version of the Board Feet Easy Calculator is here. This complete re-write uses the latest tools - making use of the many new features in iOS and sporting a modern user interface.
The best part is that it's still free!
Introduction
The Board Feet Easy Calculator is a simple, easy to use application for calculating board feet. If you don't work with wood, this application is of no use to you. If you do have the need to calculate board feet, this easy to use calculator may be just what you're looking for. Simply enter the length, width, and thickness, and the calculator will tell you the board feet for the given dimensions. Optionally, you can specify the number of pieces, a waste percentage, and the cost per board foot, and the calculator will produce the total board feet, the board feet including waste, and the total cost.
Although there are other free board feet calculators (and I've tried them all), they either did not have all the options I needed, and/or had user interface quirks, so I created my own. I use this calculator often and find it handy, so I want to share it with any other woodworkers that need an easy to use board feet calculator.
Version 3.0 is functionally the same as version 2, with only some very minor feature enhancements that were requested by the user base.
Using the app
Calculator
Enter length (in feet and/or inches) and width in inches, then tap Calculate. Default settings are 4/4 thickness and 1 piece, so common calculations only require length and width. Optional inputs are:
- Waste percentage, to account for cutting inefficiencies and material defects
- Cost per board foot
Once fields are filled in, the calculator shows net board feet, total board feet with waste factored in, and total cost. Reset clears all entries back to their defaults.
Projects
Calculations can be grouped into projects, acting as a bill-of-materials list. Create a project, then add individual material calculations to it. The project keeps a running total of board feet and cost automatically. Each project can also hold notes for anything else worth remembering, such as delivery dates, client details, or a cut list.
Tap into a project to view, edit, or delete its materials; swipe a material to delete it individually.

Board Feet Easy Calculator does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, either with its developer or with any third party.
All information you enter into the app (projects, materials, dimensions, prices, and notes) is stored only on your own device, using Apple's on-device data storage. It never leaves your device. The app does not connect to the internet, does not include analytics or advertising, and does not track you in any way.
The app has no user accounts and no sign-in, so there is nothing to link your use of the app to you personally. Since no data is collected from anyone, this applies equally to users of any age.
If this policy ever changes, an updated version will be posted here.
